Handyman Help Prepping The Home For Summer

There are things that always need to be done around the home. If you aren't capable of taking care of these things on your own, your local company that offers full handyman services will help. Here, you will learn a few things that must be taken care of each spring to ensure your home is ready for a long, hot summer.

Gutters and Roofing

The roof and gutters on your home go through a lot over the winter. Each spring, the roof should be inspected and repairs made. Shingles can be lifted from ice building up on the roof and failure to fix them right away will result in a leaky roof and water damage.

Hopefully, your gutters were cleaned at the end of the fall season, but even so, they need to be cleaned again in the spring. Dirt and debris will clog up the gutter system and prevent the water from flowing away from your home as it should. This will result in foundation damage and potentially water seeping into your basement.

HVAC Preparations

Now that the cold weather has passed, it's time to get your furnace ready for a summer of non-use and prepare your air conditioning unit for use. New filters, a good cleaning and an inspection of all of the components is always important at the change of the season. This will help to ensure that everything is in good working order to prevent breakdowns of the A/C unit on the hottest days of the year and leaking gas coming from the furnace.

Decking

If you have a wooden deck, now is the time to get it cleaned up and ready for all of your summer picnics. The dirt, moss and mildew must be removed and a coat of sealant applied. This will help to extend the life of the materials and keep it looking beautiful much longer. If you fail to clean and seal the wood, it will become very slippery when it's wet and will quickly rot.

Your local handyman can take care so many tasks around your home. He can take a look around and advise you on what needs to be given attention and what can wait for care. Sometimes, it's better to have a handyman do your spring spruce-ups because he will be able to identify issues that may need tended to that you don't know to look for or haven't caught on your own.
