3 Kitchen Remodeling Tips

If you are thinking about redoing your kitchen, but there is the possibility that you may later sell your house, you may wonder what you should do in order to get your money back when you sell, or what will help your house sell. You may be tempted to do all kinds of things to your kitchen, but the problem is that not everything you want to do will return your investment or help sell your house. Knowing what to do and how to plan your reno will help you spend your money wisely.

Keep in Mind Your House's Architecture

You may want to completely redo your kitchen and come up with something new and modern, however, new and modern isn't always the best choice. If your house has a very particular style that follows through the whole house, a modern kitchen can be very jarring. For example, if you live in a craftsman era house that has the look maintained through the entire house and all of a sudden you have a kitchen that is all very modern, you can actually drop the value of your home. People who love the craftsman era home may not really want to have a big, modern looking kitchen.

Get Good Appliances

A high-quality refrigerator and stove are always going to be worth the investment. They are going to last longer than something that isn't as high in quality, which means that you are going to get a better return on your investment. If you are going to sell, potential buyers are going to look at the major appliances and will want to have something that will last as well. In same places, having the right brand name or type of refrigerator or stove can improve your kitchen's value. In those places, buyers aren't going to want to pay good money for a low-quality or off-brand appliance.

Think Neutral

Bright orange and acid green may be your two favorite colors, but potential buyers might not be as excited about your chosen color palette. So, think about buying neutral colored appliances and painting your walls a neutral color. Then you can add accessories that bring in your favorite colors so you don't have to give them up altogether.

When you are remodeling your kitchen, you want to have something you like, but if you are going to sell your house in the next few years, you want to make sure that you also keep in mind things that will help sell your house and repay your investment.
